On our second podcast episode, we welcome Dr. Matthew Holden. Matthew Holden is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science at Carleton University. He completed his PhD in Computing at Queen’s University in 2018 and his postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University in 2019. His primary research interest is in surgical data science, where he investigates machine learning methods for time series data collected in the operating environment. This enables real-time decision support and quality assurance during surgery, with the goal of improving patient outcomes.

Backed with many years of expertise in the aviation and information technology industry, he offers a rare combination of commercial and operational management skills with an in-depth understanding of technical IT systems. He has held a number of senior executive positions in a number of airlines, including Emirates Airlines, Qatar Airlines, Saudia, and Sri Lankan Airlines, and offers his expertise in an advisory role to airline CEOs.
